The HMYC has two sailing venues. During the Summer racing season (just before Memorial Day until the weekend after Labor Day) the HMYC sails at Hop Brook Lake in Middlebury CT. The park address is 4 Straits Turnpike (rt 63), Middlebury, CT 06762. If visiting the park for the first time, about 1/4 mile after the guard shack, bear to the left and follow the road to the swimming area parking lot. We typically park along the shore on the right at the beginning of the parking lot. (Google Map to Hop Brook Lake …)
During the Spring and Fall, the HMYC sails at Bethany Veterans Memorial Park. The address is 265 Beacon Rd. (rt 42) , Bethany, CT 06524. (Google Map to Bethany Veterans Memorial Park) Sailing for club members at Bethany Veterans Memorial Park requires getting an annual non-resident parking pass if you are not a resident of Bethany. This fee is usually waived for visiting sailors for regattas. The pass cost $50 and is good for one year from the date of purchase and can be obtained at the Parks & Recreation Department at the Bethany Town Hall (40 Peck Rd. Bethany, CT). Speak with Janice Howard ((203) 393-2100 ext. 127) the Parks & Recreation Director to obtain the parking passes. Mail in applications are also be available.
Note: If you are coming to sail, Hop Brook Lake does not have a dock to launch boats. Therefore, at Hop Brook, you need to use boots or water shoes to wade into the water to launch your boats. Bethany has a portable dock that is used during regular club racing and regattas.
